The staff at St. Jerome School wish you a safe and wonderful summer break. We look forward to seeing you on September 2, 2014, which is a full day of classes starting at 8:30 a.m.
The final celebration of the year will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 23rd. As always, all parents are invited to attend our year-end mass and celebration to bid ‘farewell’ to our Grade 6 students!
Our year-end PowerPoint celebration will be directly following the celebration. Parents are also welcome to attend this event to enjoy the year in pictures!
The last day for students to take our books from the school library was Friday, June 6. All library books should have been returned to the library by Friday, June 13. Please assist your students in returning any books or text books that may still be outstanding. On average, over 4500 books circulate in and out of the library per month. That’s a lot of reading going on! Reading will take you places this summer.
Parents in this community are for the most part very good at observing parking and drop-off regulations at the school. At St. Jerome School, our philosophy is “Safety Over Convenience”. The students know that they are not to walk or play in the parking lot as it poses a safety hazard when cars are backing up. The “Drop-Off Zone” is for dropping off and picking up students only – vehicles should never be left unattended as this is not a parking lot. We have also witnessed a few students jaywalking while holding their parent’s hand. Please use the crosswalk so that our School Patrollers can cross you safely. We appreciate parent support in ensuring that students develop good, safe habits around traffic.
Our Lost and Found items will be displayed in the front hallway. The clothing will remain on view until Wednesday, June 25th at 3:00 p.m. By that time, all students will have had ample opportunity to view the clothes and claim any lost items. Items that remain unclaimed after this will be donated to a local charity.
Mr. Joe Dunn is retiring this year after 34 years of teaching! Mr. Dunn started his career in the UK and then moved to Canada in 1993. Mr. Dunn’s students absolutely have benefitted from his wealth of experience and knowledge. He is a consummate professional who always considers his student first in any decision making. All students, both past and present students feel as though he has made a lasting impression – they know that they should expect nothing of themselves but their very best – it’s what Mr. Dunn expects! Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Dunn – may you have many happy retirement years together.
Thank you so much to Men In Kilts for loaning us the kilts for our staff to wear!
We will be having a talent show on the last day of school. Interested students from grade 1-6 auditioned for one of two shows that day (a.m. and p.m.). They were notified by letter, and all students will be invited to perform in music class for their peers during a specified class in the last two weeks of school.
All students who will be taking the bus in the fall should have registered online. If you are unsure if your child qualifies for transportation, please contact the school office at 403-500-2115. Please note that forms filled out late may not be processed in time for transportation to be arranged for September.
School Council will recognize all students in the school who have received sacraments this year by presenting them with a small token during an assembly on Thursday, June 12th.
